The 4-rollers machine has one more pressure roller than the 3-rollers machine, which can clamp the profile more under the upper roller and improve the bending accuracy (when the precision of the three-roll machines bending die is very high, the four-rollers machines will also lose its unique Advantage), but it will make the operator's operation more cumbersome, while reducing the bending ability of the same model.

Whilst four rollers CNC profile bending machines produce fast, accurate bends, three roll machines are ideal for fabricators working with a wide range of material types.

Working principle

The relative position change of the workpiece (through the up and down movement of the upper roller shaft or the lower and upper roller shaft) and the pressure generated during the rotation movement in the direction perpendicular to the deformation of the profile itself cause the profile to produce continuous plastic deformation (make the outer layer of the profile Deformation) The fiber stretches, the inner fiber shrinks to produce bending deformation, the middle fiber does not change), and the workpiece with a predetermined shape is obtained at room temperature (we call it cold bending).

Refers to the three rollers in a symmetrical shape (pyramid shape) during bending. The upper roller or the two lower rollers rotate in a symmetrical relative position at the center to apply pressure to the profile to produce plastic deformation
Disadvantages: It is not possible to pre-bend the profile. There are larger straight edges at the end of the workpiece after bending, which causes waste.

Refers to the asymmetrical shape of the three rollers during bending. The upper roller and the two lower rollers move vertically at asymmetrical central positions, and the upper roller or the two lower rollers rotate to exert pressure on the profile. Produce plastic deformation. The end of the profile can be pre-bent.

5 tips for choosing the right profile bending machine

Choosing a CNC Profile Bending Machines may seem difficult but it really breaks down into a few simple steps. First, determine the maximum size and type of material you will be rolling. Next determine the types of profiles (angles, flats, tubes, etc.) that you will be forming. Lastly determine if you will be rolling material into one simple radius or if you will have or need the ability to have, the capability of forming variable radii.

Yield strength

Regarding the yield strength of the angle iron roller, BIT machines are uniformly calculated based on the yield value of Q245 and have yield strength of between 36,000 and 38,000 pounds per square inch (PSI).

The yield value of Q245: refers to the yield value of this material, around 245MPa (34,075 psi).

Correctly sized

Whether operators are bending angle iron, tool choice is critical. The tools need to fit the profile yet not be so tight as to negatively affect workpiece shrinkage and growth. A tool that’s too tight can cause localized distortion and, at worst, actually gouge the material surface.

When operators need to bend an open profile like an angle, they have fewer distortion-mitigating tools at their disposal. Beyond tool choice and fit-up, angle iron roller must choose a correctly sized machine, one with sufficient forming tonnage and adequate grip lengths—enough to provide the needed leverage to reduce distortion, but not so long that they will require an excessively long sacrificial straight section, the long sacrificial flat section becomes expensive scrap, reducing the roll shop’s competitiveness.

HOW DO MINIMIZE THE UNBENT FLAT OF THE ROLLING ANGLE PROCESS?

BIT’s angle iron roller has the independent motion of the two side rolls allowing the operator to minimize the sacrificial unbent flat sections on the workpiece.

Again, typically a roll shop that bends a small workpiece on a large profile bending machine (section bending machine) must factor in a long flat section, which increases material costs.

But because the BIT profile bending machines move the way they do, an operator can move a joystick or push a few buttons on the control to reconfigure them into a smaller-machine orientation. Beyond this, operators can fine-tune the roll position to minimize the unbent flat even further.
